Shogo Sato was born in Nagasaki Prefecture in 1955. He debuted in 1983 when Eien no 1/2 (Half of Eternity) won the 7th Subaru Literary Prize. He won the 6th Yamada Futaro Prize in 2015 for Hato no Gekitai-ho (Every Trick in the Book) and the 157th Naoki Prize in 2017 for Tsuki no Michikake (Phases of the Moon), which was adapted into a feature film in 2022. Ripe Persimmon was serialized in a literary magazine from 2016 to 2024.
