EMILY CHUANG is the founder of EMILY BOOKS AGENCY. She worked with international authors and published their collections such as Milan Kundera, J.M. Le Clezio, Umberto Eco, J.K. Rowling, Patric Modiano, Patrick Suskind, Arnaldur Indrisason, Yann Martel, Bernard Schlink and Dai Sijie when she was in Crown Culture Corporation. She was responsible for "Soji Shimada Mystery Award" in 2009/2011 and invited publishers in Japan, China, Thailand, Malaysia and Italy to publish the first prize books. Emily has been involved in bringing Japanese books to international markets since 2019, and established Emily Books Agency in May 2023. Based in Taiwan, the agency specializes in introducing works from Japan and Taiwan to publishers worldwide.

  • Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa has been licensed in 50 languages, selling over one million copies worldwide. In 2024, it became the #1 translated fiction title in the UK and a bestseller in the UK, US, Italy, and many other countries. Of the top 40 translated books in the UK in 2024, 17 were Japanese titles — four of which were represented by our agency.

  • The Cat Who Saved Books by Sosuke Natsukawa has already been translated into 43 languages and become a global bestseller. The Strange Pictures by Uketsu became a buzzed-about title at the London Book Fair in 2024 and has now been licensed in approximately 35 languages.

  • From 2025, the agency has expanded into non-fiction. The Practice of Not Reacting by Ryushun Kusanagi has already been acquired in 14 languages, with publication scheduled in the UK and US in 2026.

  • A Perfect Day to Put Your Head in the Oven by Lee Chia-ying has been licensed in 20 languages, with publication scheduled in the UK and US in January 2027. We are proud to have brought this debut novel by a Taiwanese literary fiction writer to readers around the world.
