"Welcome! Welcome to Cafe Gakubuchi!"
On a street corner in Koenji, Tokyo, a flashy sign reading "We Buy Your Memories" draws visitors into a cafe where the walls are covered in frames of all sizes. Inside these frames are humble items like shoelaces, movie ticket stubs, and toys—objects that hold someone’s precious memories. This is a picture frame shop run by the Misaki siblings, who inherited the business from their father. To revive the shop, the younger sister, Mahiru, transformed the first floor into a cafe, while her brother, Shinya, frames the "memory items" brought in by customers. Sometimes the patrons take these pieces home, and other times they are displayed on the wall for someone else to buy.
The shop sees a variety of visitors, including Takiko, a former traveler now consumed by caregiving; Ikue, who hopes to fulfill her late husband's wish for a photo exhibition; Ririka, who is constantly frustrated by her unemployed husband; Kazunao, a man about to be married holding a cherished UFO toy; and Sora, a middle school student with a painting of the "old man" next door...
These reborn memories heal wounded hearts and bodies, eventually leading to unexpected new encounters.
From the author of "The Memory Photographers" and "Delivery Service From Heaven" comes this special, heartwarming story.
