Karen Takayama's ordinary life begins to unravel after attending an occult research club event at a university. Invited by her subordinate from work with the enticing question, "Would you like to hear a strange ghost story?", Karen listens to a peculiar tale that becomes the catalyst for a series of supernatural phenomena that infiltrate her daily existence.
What makes the novel especially intriguing is Haruko's team's attitude toward supernatural phenomena: "They may exist, but most are uninteresting." While there are indeed things in reality that cannot be explained by theory, they remain "uninteresting" because they cannot fundamentally change the world. The novel presents a grounded approach to the supernatural, acknowledging its existence while remaining firmly rooted in reality.
