This collection moves through three territories of daily life. The first, 暮らし, attends to the domestic and sensory world—the rhythm of a household, the quality of a meal, the particular pleasure of an afternoon alone. The second, 仕事の工夫, turns to work—not as a site of ambition but as a place where character is made visible. The third, 人づきあい, considers how we are with other people: the grace of an unconditional apology, the weight of an unkind word, the gift given for no occasion.
